Oh my goodness it was so emotional. Girl falls in love with mermaid royalty happily ever after?

Oh my goodness. I love the old-fashioned feel of this book. The noblemen, the fancy clothes and fancy language, the propriety and impropriety…contrasting so nicely with the fantastical element of the merworld. There was all sorts of island-y superstition and sailor superstition. Yes, the two distinct parts fit together quite nicely. What I thought was really cool was that they spoke through emotions. We just feel them.

Besides, it certainly helped her out in the end. I really liked how introspective this book was. She learns about love and trust all over again from the kind people that have come into her life, even as it seems that most people hate her for no reason. Like Estelle, one of the people who helps take care of her when she washes up. Despite the few moments when I felt like I was warming up to her, and she was warming up to Sade, I was still pretty certain her fear would make her betray Sade.

But you just never know about some people! That leads me to another great point—I know I mentioned it in the second sentence, but here it gets its own paragraph. I talk to myself a bit, but I was doing it a lot when I read this—that kind of out-loud commentary you do when watching a show with a friend. I was so into it.

Scientists Discover A Mysterious "Shadow Zone" In The Ocean

It comes with my curse of being too empathetic. Keep the tissues at hand. This is so much more than a sappy romance. This is really a book about people and their natures. But gosh darn it, I need a book two!!! It ended on such a promising note.

  • How a 'shadow zone' traps the world's oldest ocean water.

This book was intense and emotional and heartwarming and I loved every second of it. This review was originally posted on my blog, Awesome Book Assessment. Oct 02, Sherry Fundin rated it it was amazing Shelves: mystery , mermaids , fiction , paranormal , supernatural. Shadow in the Sea by Sheila A Nielson is a fantasy mermaid story. The opening made me feel, drat been there done that, but as I read on, I thought, okay this is a bit different. I know it is hard to come up with a unique and original twist on a common theme, but I think Shelia A Nielson was able to accomplish this in a big way.

Accused of murder, Sade was waiting for her death…until she found herself adrift in the ocean. Tossed overboard and meant to die, she was given a second chance. She was washed up on the shores of the mysterious Winwaithe Island. Sade pretended to have amnesia. She hid from the others, was she also hiding from herself? She is terrified of the water, yet unable to resist its call. She knows the value of all life, whether man or mouse, literally.

I love to hate a villain and Captain Westwood fits the bill.

The characters are wonderful, fully developed and complex. They grow and develop throughout the story. Is Shadow in the Sea predictable…yes and no. We have some romance, Sade is a young woman after all. She has loved and lost. I have never entered a merworld so creative and wondrous. A merman with a beard. A city. Let your mind run wild…mine did and I loved it so much I hated for the story to end. View 1 comment.

The Shadow of the Moon, The Sea of Shadow

Sheila expertly sucked me into all he emotions the heroine experienced, and it was such a relief to reach the redemptive conclusion. I especially love the wooing, the Sea Prince, the ending, and the colourful ocean world I wish I could visit. Well done Sheila. Jun 30, Stephanie rated it it was amazing. This book had everything that I was hungry for when I finished the first book. I loved to see Adrianne as an adult, as the horse mistress, and find out what happened between her and Denn.

And if you were left wanting more mermaid in the first book, this one makes up for it. I am so glad she published this sequel. Sep 20, Kristen Landon rated it really liked it. Even better than the first book. Nov 25, Jenn Sut rated it really liked it. Shadow in the Sea Shelia A Nielson 4.
