Tagged as Alain Mabanckou. I was wondering about a possible link to Zoo City — it came to mind as soon as I started reading your post. A very interesting review as ever, Max. Porcupine sounds like a great little character, charming and artful in fairly equal measure. I felt like that when I found Dorothy Baker.

This is a firm case of the mythic reflecting on the real. I immediately thought of Zoo City when I started to read your review. I wonder if your tweet made her curious about this book. But I suppose it is because they draw on the same underlying local mythology. Anyway, I thought this was great and you may well like it. Pingback: end of year roundup Pechorin's Journal. Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Sort order. Felt very immature. True for writing-style, story-telling technique and characterization. While in Delphinia's Willow the first half felt very immature the second half was good, unfortunately that's not the case here. Only few authors have the feat of writing good short stories and unfortunately it feels like Lana is far from having this feat, though I do believe she can fare much better in full-length novels.

  • An explanation is in order here. I did not add this to Goodreads because it is NOT a book, and I'm not entirely certain that it belongs here. This is a very short story written as a memoir from the villain's point of view. He has no redeeming qualities, and he is what he is. This isn't meant as a happy go-lucky fairytale. It isn't written to take you along on a journey beside the main character, nor is there a hero to root for. Memoirs of a Sorcerer eBook: Lana Axe: Kindle Store

It's rare to see a story from the villain's point of view, but here it is very well done. It's interesting to get his perspective on things and understand why he is so bent on revenge. There's plenty of action in this very short story. I would enjoy knowing more about this character and seeing how his story unfolds later in his life. Dec 09, Cherie rated it it was ok Shelves: published-since Yeah, no.

I won't be reading any more of this. No character development. It is all "I, I, I". No emotion. Dec 13, Yoav rated it it was amazing. This is a very good story. The main character is a terrible person, but it's refreshing to read something new like this. Nov 25, Asha rated it it was amazing. Very good story. It's neat to see inside a bad guy's head. Nov 22, Robert Zimmermann rated it it was ok.
