May 20, Jan rated it it was ok Shelves: contemporary. This one was pretty lame. I nearly dnf'ed it, but ended up finishing it by skimming, so I almost feel guilty about claiming to have 'read' it. I'd read a few Bella Andres a while ago and thought this might be a sweet, light read. Well, it was light and fluffy, but a little boring as well, sadly. Seemed a fairly 'routine' and 'by-the-numbers' romance. Very little angst, but of course that's not what you look for in this kind of book. Aug 04, Musing rated it really liked it.

Rafe Sullivan had lost his innocence. He'd lost faith in live, blinded and tarnished by the infidelity of his beautiful rich clients. He'd lost joy. He'd lost fun. He'd gained serious, intensity and cynicism as his friends, who shackled him. It seemed that the good girl next door, Brooke Jansen, had a well-hidden naughty streak, but also a innocent loveliness and light about her, that made Another delectable treat from accomplished and talented author Bella Andre with The Way You Look Tonight.

It seemed that the good girl next door, Brooke Jansen, had a well-hidden naughty streak, but also a innocent loveliness and light about her, that made resisting her, impossible. She was safe, wholesome, sweet. Whether it be their shared history, or just her sweet nature, she had a way of making what would ordinarily be complicated, easy.

Could her gentle strength liberate him from his distrust? Despite his intelligent and intuitive investigative skills, he missed Brooke's honest cues. As a child, Brooke had looked at Rafe Sullivan and seen carefree and adventurous. As a woman, she saw that and more. She saw deep convictions, a deep love for his family, but sadly, a deep distrust of the possibility of fidelity, truth, love. She had thought that her joy and lust for life could help heal him. She knew, deep down though, that only he keep really heal himself. She also feared, deep down, that he was the only man that could irrevocably hurt her, just as she knew, there would never be another man she would love more either.

When I first started Bella Andre's book, I was ready for a fairly predictable plot, but one that I also knew would be worded with her beautifully, talented prose and heated with her romantic sensual touches of sizzle. I was not disappointed. With a touch of tension, the book, told in third person, shifted minds throughout, giving the reader terrific insight into the characters' thoughts, and provided a deliciously light, sweet romance. Woo hoo! Subtle hints were provided as to future Sullivan delicious tales.

Thank goodness for Andre's Epilogues! As usual, I'll now await eagerly the next installment. After seeing the author interviewed briefly in the documentary Love Between the Covers , I decided to read this once upon a time freebie that had been sitting on my e-reader for more than a year. I didn't expect much more than a light contemporary romance, but this was still so disappointing.

While the writing was better than many romance novels I've read, the character and relationship development was nearly non-existent, despite the author's pained attempts to convince readers otherwise. Even After seeing the author interviewed briefly in the documentary Love Between the Covers , I decided to read this once upon a time freebie that had been sitting on my e-reader for more than a year. Even from the opening chapters, the entire story was about little more than the "burning" sexual pull between the two characters.

The entire story arc went from "we haven't seen each other in 18 years when I was but a mere 8 year-old-girl, but I remember everything about everyone like I was an adult, and we should view spoiler [ have kinky sex to prove I'm not a little girl anymore and to piss off my parents and then we'll fall in love in four days and declare our intention to marry one another on the fifth day. Sounds romantic, right? Jan 16, Michelle rated it really liked it Shelves: kindle-book , books , 4.

Much better than the last few Sullivan books. I had really given up on this author, but this book was free so I figured why not. Glad to see she's on her way back to how good I thought she was at the beginning of the series. However, there were a few things that bothered me. First, the whole thing seemed rushed. I understand they knew each other as kids, but it had been 18 years since they've seen each other, and it only took what, 4 days to get to HEA?

There's no reason why it couldn't have bee Much better than the last few Sullivan books. There's no reason why it couldn't have been spread out more and made more believable. Secondly, the whole "kinky" aspect. It was built up to be this huge thing and really, it wasn't kinky at all. Not even close. Overall, though, I did enjoy this much more. No more dropped story lines, no more dragging and repetitiveness, no more of characters doing something against their personalities.

I am interested in Mia's story, so I may end up picking it up soon. Apr 02, Erin rated it did not like it. Listened to on audio, narrated by Eva Kaminsky. Eva Kaminsky is fabulous as always. This is one of my favourite series and I really love most of the books, unfortunately I feel indifferent to this one. I just didn't seem to connect with Rafe and Brooke or their love story. I was bored by it and have to admit I only finished it for completion sake.

Never mind. Can't love them all. The conflict near the end rankled me a bit. Brooke totally over reacted. Rafe is a PI and therefore I think she should have been more understanding about his compulsion to check people out. It was great to hear more about the siblings though and I can't wait to read Mia's book. Mar 12, Katina rated it really liked it. This as another solid book from Bella Andre for me. I just love her writing style. She has a way with words and makes me just want to read more from her.

I never want the Sullivan clan stories to end. They are amazing! I can't wait for Mia's story!! Apr 16, Sheri Morell rated it it was amazing. Love this series! WjhywiudLake his I with sole is is oleos okapis poisoning khaki aisle Kiddo's. Jun 19, Slick rated it it was amazing. Bella Andre has done it again! Even though this is a whole new branch of Sullivan's it's very apparent that family traits run strong and this branch of the family is every bit as close as their California cousins.

It also appears that no matter where, California or Washington men can and will do stupid things even when they mean well while doing it! Rafe Sullivan is a successful private investigator but lately his job is bringing him no satisfaction. When his sister Mia railroads him into buying Bella Andre has done it again! When his sister Mia railroads him into buying the lake house their parents owned when they were kids, he decides to take some time off and access his life. He certainly doesn't expect to run into an old family friend who is all grown up and sending his hormones into overdrive.

Brooke Jansen has been making her own way since her grandparent's death and she inherited their lake front home. With a thriving chocolate business and a quiet lifestyle she's quite happy and her business is about to really take off thanks to her new business partner. When Rafe pulls up on his motorcycle she fondly remembers his wild ways and hopes to convince him to take her for a walk on the wild side.

Both these characters were easy to like although Rafe was somewhat brooding for a good part of the time. The thing is his mood and reasons were valid and I did love watching how his spirit seemed to lift once he was back at Lake Wenatchee and when he was around Brooke. I'll admit Brooke took me a little by surprise once she made up her mind she was going to seduce Rafe. She was tenacious and bold and I honestly think that's what convinced Rafe to move forward; it was easy for him to not see her as the little girl who always had a crush on him.

While renovating Rafe's home they spend a lot of time together and really begin to understand and get to know each other as adults. The attraction between them was immense so it's surprise that they get intimate fairly quickly. They have some bumps in the road mainly due to Rafe's inability to trust easily and Brooke needing her independence. I enjoyed watching them work through these issues and the advice they receive from Rafe's nosey siblings. The first book in a new series is always a little tough because we are getting to know the characters, their places, and what makes them all tick.

However, I felt quite at home with this group of Sullivan's and I can't wait for the next book. I'm pretty sure someone from Mia's past is going to turn her world on its axis! Jun 19, Norine rated it it was ok.

Seattle Sullivans 1

Each book showcased the love-story about one of many siblings. Now the author is taking the series to Seattle to introduce the cousins. This may be the last Sullivan book for me though. Rafe is a PI who is jaded from being a police officer and PI for a few years. Brooke is kind hearted, fun, and innocent. The story takes place over 15 years later, and we find out Brooke had a crush on Rafe, and Rafe thought Brooke was cute when they were that young.

They played together during summer months when they were visiting and Brooke was considered family. Now, years later, I felt the author was trying to sexualize their relationship at that young age. So there were definitely things missing from the story line. The minute they see each other and realize who the other is, the sexual chemistry takes over. Who cleaned up and sanitized the counter?

I just know that there will be some good parts in the last few chapters. I have hope……. Mar 20, Morgan rated it liked it Shelves: 3-stars. Since it has some extremely tough competition that doesn't mean it was bad One of my favorite things in a romance novel is to watch the characters fall in love. The characters in this novel fell in love way too fast, in my opinion. Overnight, the characters went from friends to lovers. I believe the reason their relationship transitioned so fast was because of their history together.

Unfortunately, readers weren't exposed to the character's past together so it was hard for me to make the jump from friends to lovers. Plus, the characters hadn't seen each other in years which made it even more difficult to imagine them falling in love so quickly. I wish Ms. Andre would have have included snippets of the characters in their childhood. I believe this would have allowed readers to build a stronger connection with the characters and make their relationship more believable.

I also found the plot to be pretty anti-climatic. There was some conflict but it was expected and resolved very quickly. Having said all of that, I'm super excited about reading the next novel in the series. Andre set things up for Mia to have the best story yet!! It's the pretty mix of sweet and sexy and I have a feeling that readers will enjoy it.

Oct 05, Debbie Hanson rated it really liked it. Book 1 for , and amazing it was. I've always been a huge Sullivan's fan, and as we meet the Seattle Sullivan's it is their turn for happy ever afters with the same heat and passion that Bella Andre is known for. Rafe Sullivan has his own successful P. He never imagined the woman that would turn his wor Book 1 for , and amazing it was.

He never imagined the woman that would turn his world upside down and teach him about real life. Brooke Jansen has quit her boring climb the ladder job to move out to the beach house that belonged to her grandparents and now runs her own business making truffles to sell through local stores. Seeing the house next to her litterally falling apart due to owners and renters who have destroyed it, she is shocked when a gorgeous man arrives on a Ducati as the new owner.

The Way You Look Tonight

But when she realises it is none other than Rafe Sullivan - her previous summer neighbor and massive childhood crush. Now living next to each other, the chemistry and heat between the pair is off the charts. It is only a matter of time before they give into their attraction and take that step that will change everything.

An always romantic Brooke, wants that wildside of Rafe but Rafe doesn't want that with gorgeous Brooke, he wants slow, sensual love with her. While playing house while fixing up the Sullivan house, they share a bed every night along with plenty of other things, but when Rafe's P. Now she has left him, and given him 24 hours to think about himself and them as a couple. I'll just say the reunion is stunning hot and true love. But can Brooke forgive his controlling tendencies and have a happy ever after with the man she has always crushed over. While this is the 9th book in the overall series, being book 1 in the spinoff series made it easy to follow along with who's who. Mention is made of the San Francisco Sullivans but it's vague enough you don't have to wade through a genealogy chart to figure out how everybody fits together. So, yay for that! This book gives us the good girl who My contemporary romance kick continues still without any 'splosions, dangit!

This book gives us the good girl who's looking to finally cut loose and the wild man who's become jaded by what he's seen on his job. Brooke's family isn't terribly supportive of her well, they kind of are. But mostly not. Rafe has a thriving business and a great family and he's completely burnt out by the constant stream of cheating spouses he comes across. Needless to say, he needs a break. A lot of the issues that arose between them came from Rafe, to be honest.

He was afraid of hurting Brooke. He was afraid she wasn't being as smart as she should be with her business partner. He was afraid she was going to break his heart the way he'd seen all the men and women he'd been hired to investigate had broken their spouses' hearts. Admirable, Rafe, but doesn't the lady have a say in it, too? In the end, it was a fun, light-hearted romance that left me feeling good. Nothing terribly terrible happened and the two of them worked out their differences to get their HEA. Some days, that's all I need. Jun 19, Mari rated it really liked it.

While I get a different feel with this branch of the family, the formula and interaction is there. I personally adore this family, one you'd love to be a part of the solidarity and familial bond is a good vibe. Cynicism is his best bet, while that side of him that longs to trust and believe in love is there it's buried deep.

Needing a break he goes to his family's old lake house to unwind and take it easy for a while. He runs into a childhood friend all grown up Brooke. I love their story, it's my favorite childhood crush first love all grown up getting rekindled. Theirs is such a sweet romance, it's like Rafe needed Brooke to remind him what it was like to be free, trust and let loose. Rafe is another in the line of hot Sullivan's and Brooke has known this everyone only now there's a deeper and darker edge to him. I just loved feeling between these two, even with sizzling intense chemistry they had good feelings even from way back linking them.

The way you look tonight is perfect song for these two because Brooke is that light for Rafe to make him smile after all this time. Although I miss the California clan and I feel like I'm still settling into this one, there were times I felt I wanted more. Still it's classic Bella Andre and all around feel good sexy vibes and family love and that's why I love reading this series. Sep 20, Rosie Amber rated it really liked it. Easily a stand alone book.

Rafe Sullivan is a PI. The big dollar cases are all marriage related, but the emotional strain of finding so many marriages that fail makes Rafe skeptical of trusting that true love is real. When his real estate sister produces details of the lake house that their family once owned and spent many happy summers at, Rafe is cornered by Mia. She already has plans for their old family home and just needs his signature.

Mia sends Rafe out to his new house and away from the stress of his work and a past experience with an angry husband of one of his clients. When he arrives he finds the place trashed and uninhabitable. Brooke Jansen spent her childhood summers at her grandparents Washington state lake house and spent many hours with the Sullivans who lived next door. When her Grandparents died they left her the lake house and now Brooke uses it as a base for her chocolate business. She can't believe that the new owner of the house next door is her childhood crush, Rafe.

She'd heard the Sullivans had sold up years ago. Brooke offers Rafe a place to crash while he does his lake house up, but it soon becomes apparent that Brooke's crush isn't over and Rafe certainly likes the women Brooke has grown up to be. Can Rafe let down his guard enough to let Brooke in? Or will be chase her away with his controlling urges? Good feel-good reading.

Mar 26, Moon Love rated it really liked it. I would have to give this book a 3. Here's what I liked: 1. Rafe-I love that even though he was so jaded, he kept an open mind when it came to Brooke. Brooke-I love how she knew she wanted Rafe and she didn't let him or anyone else stand in the way of that. I also love that she wasn't a stacked skinny girl, but a stacked curvy one who made delicious chocolates.

How fast paced the story was. I felt like I read this in no time at all. Her descriptions of the lake house and Brooke's truffles, I would have to give this book a 3.
