Although he could have said more about the reliability and methods of Photius and the other transmitters of the fragments, he rightly draws attention to the predilection of all of these for marvels and their obvious disregard for the mundane. Something, too, could well have been said about the extent of Persian contact with the area described by Ctesias.

Yet he does not indicate which passages employ Jacoby, nor, when he is clearly using this edition, does he necessarily reproduce everything that appears there see below on F Indeed, he does not always provide everything that appears in both Lenfant and Jacoby see F 55 and elsewhere. As for the translation itself, although it reads well, it is a surprisingly free rendering of the fragments.
